These positions will facilitate the opportunity for elderly isolated seniors who are still living in independent living accommodation to access Social Support activities by providing volunteer transport and support.(See also VVV0912 for related non driving positions) The following roles are available: (1) Social Support Volunteer including Community Transport Driver. (Using own car, MCHS car or Doncare car); (2) Social Support Volunteer including Community Transport Driver. (MCHS 10 seater Bus) ; (3)MCHS Community Transport Driver for medical, personal and hospital appointments. The program duties are: •Facilitate activities for older people; •Provide practical support and encouragement to participants; enable them to be actively involved in the activity of their choice; •Empower participants to contribute to the organisation and development of the activity; •Support participants to maintain control of their own decision-making; •Monitor the needs of the participants reporting any concerns you may have to the Social Support team; •Collect transport fees and help organise the payment of participant’s consumables at the group. This will involve a small amount of maths skill as many venues no longer split the bill; •Complete documentation (Activity Report); •Attend Social Support and Training meetings; •Assist in the orientation of new volunteers; •Maintain safe work conditions in accordance with Doncare OH&S policy. Successful volunteers will be required to be safe and careful drivers who are willing to meet safety, reporting and training conditions as advised by the Program Management. No formal qualifications required but you will need a current Victorian Drivers Licence and training in safe transport management. Volunteers assisting at the venues are reimbursed for their lunch costs. Potential volunteers will participate in an interview where skills, training and required commitment can be discussed. Police and referee checks are mandatory for all volunteers. This is a joint program from Doncare Social Support Program and Manningham Community Health Service Transport Support).
