Volunteer involvement is central to Doncares services, which are primarily delivered by trained volunteers who are managed by a small team of paid staff. Funds raised through Doncare's six opportunity shops support vulnerable families in our community. Each Doncare op shop is basically self-managed by its own Committee of Management, with overall guidance from and supervision by Doncare paid staff. Volunteer duties These include: Helping customers with selecting goods Selling merchandise Tidying clothes racks and shelves Sorting donations Displaying goods Keeping the shop presentation clean Volunteer skills/qualities These include: Punctuality and reliability Good communication skills Self motivated Friendly manner Enjoy being part of a team People interested in meeting new people while working within retail recycle will enjoy these volunteering opportunities. Position reports to Volunteer Committee member on duty Times and days Morning or afternoon shifts are available during the week and also on Saturdays. Minimum commitment period Most op shop volunteers stay for many years, because they enjoy their volunteering work so much and know they're making a useful contribution. Recruitment process Application followed by an interview and selection of the most suitable op shop location and duty shift. Training and support provided On the job training is provided in retail skills, including stock pricing, presentation and management, customer service, cash management, and sorting incoming goods. New volunteers are invited to attend a Volunteering in Manningham Introduction to Volunteering session, lasting for two and a half hours.
