Formed in 1982, FOWSP is now one of the largest and most active Friends groups in the state. The aim of FOWSP is to foster awareness of the natural values of the Park and to help the Rangers in the care and protection of both the State Park and the Warrandyte-Kinglake Nature Conservation Reserve. FOWSP runs an indigenous plant nursery in the Pound Bend area of the Park. It also provides information on indigenous plants, weeds and various aspects of bushland conservation to the local community." It doesn't take long for results of FOWSP's work to show - for barren ground to be transformed to vibrant bushland, noisy with birdsong, or for native plants to flourish where they were previously choked with weeds. Volunteers Volunteers can work in the nursery at Pound Bend on Thursday mornings, propagating plants indigenous to the Park to provide seedlings for revegetation and doing other nursery activities. No prior experience is necessary. There are also working bees, doing planting, weeding or other tasks, and a variety of other ways to contribute, including education, research and helping out at FOWSP's stall at monthly Warrandtye markets or the annual Warrandyte Festival. Volunteering with a Friends group is a great way to meet friendly new people, have fun, and do something very worthwhile for our community.
