It provides mentoring services to young people (7-25 years) in need of additional adult support. As a small not for a profit organisation, Big Brothers Big Sisters relies on a broad range of support for funding and volunteer mentors. Despite this support, more than 200 young people in Melbourne are waiting to be matched to a volunteer mentor. Volunteers The role of the volunteer is: * To develop a supportive friendship with a young person, showing respect and understanding of their individual needs. * To be a mentor and act as a role model and ecourage new experiences and opportunities for the young person. * To establish mutually agreeable boundaries and limits for behaviour. Big Brothers Big Sisters is located at Flemington, but volunteers are matched with someone who lives locally, preferably in Manningham. Volunteers will have to travel, however, to Flemington for training and support. Most prospective volunteers start their involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters by attending an Information Session. As at August 2010, there are volunteering vacancies for Manningham residents. Vacancies VV10040 Youth Mentor More information Go to VV10040 Youth Mentor |
