About the Agency The Migrant Information Centre (Eastern Melbourne) (MIC) is a not for profit organisation that supports the settlement of migrants and refugees residing in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. We provide migration advice and settlement services to new migrants and people from diverse cultural backgrounds living in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

Volunteers Our volunteer program comprises administrative support and settlement support. Administrative support provides opportunities for volunteer to work in partnership with paid workers at the MIC. Settlement support provides friendship and practical support to newly arrived refugee families settling in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

Some of the activities that settlement volunteers can be involved in include:
• assisting refugee families to access local libraries, places of worship, parks and playgrounds, sporting clubs and facilities;
• showing families around the local area and public transport including showing families how to buy tickets and read timetables and street maps;
• providing an opportunity to practice conversational English;
• helping children with homework.
